Hello Swingby lovers,
It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing that Swingby will be closing at the end of this year on Friday December 18, just before the holidays. This is due to a combination of reasons. Among them are mounting pressure from competition, many on-demand startups being pulled into a legal battle, funding, and—perhaps most importantly—personal reasons.
However, I see this as a success. In the summer of 2014, I was told that Swingby’s concept would not work. So I took it as a challenge to prove that it would, and to that effect, we succeeded. Within just a few weeks, we started getting orders from people we didn’t recognize. I never guessed that it’d become as loved as has today. It really has been my baby for the last year and a half, where I poured hours of my sweat and tears into taking this off the ground. It has taught me so much of what it means to start a business, manage a team, craft a product, pitch to investors, manage my own stress, and chase my dreams. So I say without any exaggeration that it’s truly been one of the hardest decisions of my life.
I want to extend my most sincere gratitude to our partner restaurants, our advisors and mentors, folks in the press who covered us, and—most importantly—all of our loyal customers and fans. Swingby, our drivers, the folks on our team… we all thank you so so much. Without all of you, we would not have been able to serve the community the way we did; help busy parents have dinner ready for their family; bring food to folks who can’t leave the house on a whim; feed students studying for their exams; and make my dream of building a startup come true.
The last date of deliveries will be on Friday December 18, right before the holidays. We will be doing all deliveries for just $1 on that night.
Once again, thank you all so much for all the love you’ve given us. You’ve truly changed my life. Happy holidays, and hope you all have a wonderful 2016!
